Well, I more or less planned to just wait until it was finished, but I may as well give you an update anyway, since a few of you are wondering what the hell I've been doing lately.
The game is essentially done. As in it can be played from start to finish. All I have left to do are,
1. The ending (less then a day)
2. Remaining CGs (10-ish days or less)
3. Last couple H animations (day or two)
4. Add the gallery (less than a day)
Bottom line, it will be released before the end of the month.
This game's development was essentially prolonged through a combination of procrastination and a lack of enthusiasm, for some reason I just wasn't as motivated as I was with Kurovadis. However, Starting with the next project, I'll be hiring two other artists, so this isn't something that I'll ever allow to happen again. Procrastinating is fine when when it's your ass on the line, but when other people are involved, it isn't an option anymore.
The next game
Unlike last time, I'll be starting the next game almost immediately after finishing this one. I can't give any specific details yet, but I can say for certain that it will be a metroidvania with RPG elements, it will be higher res than Eroico, the protagonist will be female again, and it will be in a futuristic setting.
Anyhow, back to work.
Awesomeness! Looking forward to it! ^-^
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter how long it will take to release the game, Kurovadis took quite a while and it was awesome! I'm sure both Eroico and the new game will do great too
ReplyDeleteWell, perhaps far off the "wanted to know" path for some but how is the new artist working out?
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear progress is still going steady though (compared to most anyway)
Well, he's a better artist than me, but we've yet to start working on the next game, so he hasn't started working for me yet.
DeleteGlad to hear you found an artist, Kyrieru. Would you say his/her style differs significantly from your own, or should we expect art similar to what we have seen in Kurovadis and Eroico?
DeleteOh okay, I was under the assumption you hired one already, who immediately jumped on board and started helping you with this one. Either way, glad to hear you found some help, sure it will also be a giant step up knowing you can do just as much work as you are now and come out with a much bigger result regardless.
DeleteSo what happened to the game you were working before Eroico? The one you released a screenshot of.
ReplyDeleteThat's the 'next game' he's talking about i guess. Eroico's production started because kyrieru had a block, so making a new game and then going back with fresh ideas was his original plan
DeleteI was wondering that, too. But your exlanation doesn't make sense, because Kyrieru said, the next game would be futuristic. The game with the girl and the lantern and stuff (the original follow-up to Kuro) wasn't futuristic.
DeleteSo I'm still confused as to which game is next now and what happened to the original second game etc.
Yeah, I think the one he was working on before just became too much of a chore to continue with. I'm pretty sure he's not going back to that one any time soon.
DeleteRather, he'll work on a new futuristic one that has a solid, straightforward design. Then, he might experiment again, or just do Kurovadis 2 or something.
In any case, looking forward to these games.
But, he could be talking about Kurovadis 2 as his next game. And that would be awesome! Let's wait and see.
DeleteHow much longer than the demo is the full game?
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope said next game is Kurovadis 2, heh. A higher res sequel to Kurovadis would be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteNope, won't be Kuro 2. There will be at least another game after this next one before I consider doing a sequel, mainly because I want to have a stable and reliable team when I do it.
DeleteAs long as that may take, you've given me hope, sir. Keep up the fantastic work!
DeleteKurovadis 2 will be the 4th?
Delete"Procrastinating is fine when when it's your ass on the line, but when other people are involved, it isn't an option anymore."
ReplyDeleteQuoted for truth.
Good luck with the final bit of work, I'll be looking forward to the full release or Eroico, and whatever you have planned next, as I'm sure it will be great.
Happy to hear from you again. Do you think you'll have another game with a male protagonist in the future? Or potentially a select-able or transformable gender protagonist?
ReplyDeleteProbably not, most will be female. Then again I'll be hiring artists to do some work from now on, so multiple characters or forms is more likely than it would have been.
DeleteThat's unfortunate. I'm personally a huge fan of male protagonists and think they don't get nearly enough exposure, but I understand that a lot of vocal people seem to think otherwise.
DeleteEither way, I'll be buying your games. Keep on rocking. =)
Is this Month really gonna be out?
ReplyDeleteIs this Month trully the Month?
And not this Month rule again?
Regarding Eroico - were the concerns and problems of some players regarding dififculty/lack of save/checkpoints and inability to return to some locations for missed heart pieces/to power up etc addressed? The game is nice, I like animations and setting of one male versus female enemies far more than what was in Kurovadis and I'd be willing to pay for the game, but I'd like to actually be able to progress at times without having to replay quite big part of the game every time my character dies.
ReplyDeleteAn easy mode was added. Other than that, if I had more checkpoints then it would just be too easy, since the player could just rush through every section without regard for health. The only way to balance that would be to make each section harder since there would be a save point each time, but then people would just complain that it's too hard.
DeleteAs for going back for powerups, I'm still thinking about that. It will probably just boil down to letting the player choose any level with whatever powerups they unlocked already.
Maybe you can make an Act selection system pretty much like the Megaman stage select. That way you would be prompted to either advance to the next chapter or replay an already cleared one. Just an idea
Deletethere is something wrong (altho i think it is my labtop since this and kuro work on a friends)
ReplyDeletethe keys lock on me (like if i run right then stop to jump the char will still run right or the char will just hop in place even tho i'm not touching anything) for kuro it happends then stops but does it alot more then not and for erocio it starts up on the 2nd screen but it isn't bad until i get to the 3rd screen and thats when it locks
can anyone help me with this problem? i want to play kuro and erocio without problems like this
How much RAM does your laptop have? I had that problem when I tried to play Kurovadis on a low-end pc and it was the exact same issue
Delete2.00 GB with 1.75 usable
DeleteDo something like a monster girl quest game :D
ReplyDeleteUhh, isn't that what he's doing right now?
DeleteBe sure to add the H scene when being raped by monsters.
ReplyDeleteWait wut?
DeleteKUROVADIS 2!!!! Possibly
ReplyDeleteThat'd be great. I'd like it if it got a bit more in the way of an actual storyline the second time through, but still, I loved Kurovadis regardless.
DeleteMetroidvania you say? Well you have one guaranteed sale here.
ReplyDeleteI emailed you an interesting bug I found involving line 30 of the save file in kurovadis doubling as the def upgrade for both room 188 and 281 (as in picking up either one re-wrote line 30 to a 1 and the other wouldn't appear after). Just wanted to let you know! Also Kurovadis is officially the only Hentai or porn I've ever paid for in my life... keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteYay, that's amazing to hear! =D
ReplyDeleteJust wondering though: Will there be voice acting of any kind? That's always an important criteria for me when it comes to the H-content at least.
Looking forward to both the finished Eroico and the new project. You've definitely gotten a repeat customer out of me.
ReplyDeletelooking forward, i got your money right here!
ReplyDeleteYES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
ReplyDeleteKeep going! Your games are awesome! And I'm going to buy them ;)
ReplyDeleteLoking forward to it! :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed these games are better than most indie games I buy on steam. I'm glad there's someone developing H-games to this caliber. Really easy to justify the price tag.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't be so hard on yourself. Creativity takes a lot of mental power and its understandable you just want to take a breather and relax, not to mention winter isn't the best time to have the necessary energy to keep enthusiasm up (good thing spring is arriving-ish).
ReplyDeleteTo anyone who's played the demo, how do you do the forward/back dash? I can't seem to figure it out.
ReplyDeleteI think it's space. He posted the controls some weeks ago
Deleteback dash is spacebar, forward attack slash is QCF+attack button, basically a hadoken motion.
DeleteTo anyone who's played the demo, how do you do the forward/back dash? I can't seem to figure it out.
ReplyDeleteThe guy right above you already answered.
DeleteI feel like an addict now checking in every few hours XD
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel man. I'm doing the same.
DeleteThis is the first time I buy a game from a independant developer
ReplyDeleteor doujin circle. When the game is released how do I go around
purchasing it?
Will debit cards work for payment?
And before I forget: Great game! I loved kurovadis and I hope the
rest of the games you make will be just as enjoyable!
I tried the demo for eroico and I was far more entertained than
when I played those silly 3D games from other companies like ILLUSION.
Maybe It's because I love the nostalgia from old games but the
games you make are more fun the more I play them.
Any chance you would be in the need of a programmer for your next project?
ReplyDeleteI imagine he'll probably sell them the same way he did the last game. He'll provide it through his blog and through DLsite since his last game did really well there.
