Plan change

In case you were wondering, the game will no longer be sci fi themed. A lot of what I had planned would have overlapped with Kurovadis 2, so I figured I'd do something else for this game, and save the sci-fi related concepts for Kuro.

As you may have guessed, the combat will be based around martial arts, and dbz/street fighter-ish super moves. It will mostly be fantasy themed, with some possible steam punk elements. It will still be a metroidvania with rpg elements.

And yes, you will be able to do a hadouken.

  1. Interesting. Good luck Kyrieru. The art looks great.

    1. And, if I might suggest something... Why don't you do the CGs for the game through out the development instead of just rushing them at the end? I think you'd have more inspiration that way. Just sayin'.

  2. Honestly I'd buy almost any game you make. I just love the way you handle the h elements and the gameplay.

  3. It strikes me as a bit of a shame, as the gameplay mechanics you proposed for your previous idea sounded REALLY compelling - with the creature-capturing and experimentation and such. But if they're just going into a future game, it's no big deal. You've definitely got a confirmed consistent customer in me.

    1. I do agree, I hope he does use that idea later on.

    2. I am with you on this one. I was really interested in the game's mechanics, it was very appealing. I am a bit sad to see it go, hope it will come back in one form or another.

  4. We will be able to perform hadoukens? Hurray! Now, what about shoryukens?

  5. Cool. Coolcoolcool. Butt serously, I doubt I wouldn't like anything you make. I think I'm gonna have a fun time watching the development of this game, since I only really found out about you as you were finishing Eroico. I hope you enjoy making the game as much as I'll enjoy playing it :D

  6. Awesome as, I don't mind the change as all, save the amazing stuff for Kurovadi2 2, make it am amazingly awesome game!

  7. Ah, I was really looking forward to the original idea...
But this ought to be fun too. Looking forward to Kuro 2!

  8. Aww. That's a bit of a letdown. :( Kuro 2 should be great, still. I hope it has the same oppressive atmosphere as Kuro 1 did.

Question: Will the current project still involve the monster training\taming system? Or is that out?

    1. I was really excited for the monster raising system. I hope he brings it back at some point.

  9. I dunno man. I really think you should give her a bit of a redesign. I love the idea of making it a fantasy based metroidvania with a bit of steampunk mixed. She could be the vagabond who stands out in a world of technology, the sort of wandering spirit of the past in an age of the future. But at the same time, I think she looks way too much like Ryu. I really think you should make her stand out a bit more. But that's just me. Nonetheless, I'm excited to play whatever your making, no matter what, dude.

    1. I agree. Playing a karate-girl isn't that appealing for me either. Well, you've got all the gameplay mechanics that type of character allows, so I can see why he'd go down this path. But, I'm sure a true steampunk-inspired character could be more interesting in a fantasy world. Might still be and OK game, but it's probably not something that'll attract the masses. Still, you never know.

    2. yes please change the character! even if you do a karate girl I think you can do a better design. Make her cuter or cooler looking somehow, she looks very simple and dull as it is. I like the char designs in the other games but this one is really dull.

  10. not crazy about her wearing a karate gi but i do like the martial arts idea (leaves room for the enemy to preform grabs :3) if I could request anything it would be to give us costume choices (real choices, not just outfit B gives a better stat boost than outfit A so no one will use outfit A)

I actually didn't know about the melee attacks in Kurovadis until i watched a video of the game on youtube and i was already almost done the game!

  11. Now that I've had a good look at her, she does remind me too much of Ryu and Sakura. Give her some flair, change her hair or eye color or something.

  12. I like the idea of being able to do special moves a la Street Fighter. Will you also include some sort of combo system, too?

    Criticisms:

    - Design: Spritework itself is very good. As for the design, I'd make a mix of two of the designs you proposed. I took the liberty of doing a quick edit (I also retouched a couple of pixels of her left boob and waist):

You shouldn't really worry about not being subtle. Sakura has a similar alternate costume in Street Fighter IV and that's a mainstream game, so as a hentai dev you can get away with that too, haha.

Also, if you are going to make her a karate girl, maybe you should do a setting that suit her better than steampunk / fantasy? Perhaps to suit the H theme you could do a martial arts heavy setting and make her beat rival dojos (where you would find girl bosses for your CGs, or perhaps even a reverse rape thing with male bosses if you only want to make her the protagonist of such scenes)?

    - System: If by "RPG elements" you mean leveling up, I'd love it if you drop that idea. I just don't see the point of including enemy respawn grinding in skill based games like yours. If you are really really a fan of leveling up, at least you could give exp only for the first enemies you kill and not for the respawns. I can understand giving more abilities to access new places and stuff, but just not plainly making the character stronger the more you grind. Maybe I'm too used to arcade games, but that kind of stuff always ends up dulling the fun for me in Metroidvanias.

Anyways, looking forward to your next project.

    1. Also, following on the beating dojos idea, it would make sense setting-wise to get new abilities from the defeated dojo owners. Suits your games I believe.

    2. I think Kyrieru has said he won't make any games where you play as the rapist, so I can't imagine you'd ever see a reverse rape situation.

Though I do agree if he wants a kind of steampunk/fantasy feel, the shown character doesn't really show that. Unless she's a rebel, trying to stick stay in the old ways I suppose.

    3. I hope she's still fighting monsters of some kind, though. Just various other karate dudes would be a bit dull.

Also: Did he ever confirm the monster training thing was gone?

    4. There is one chief merit to the level-up system. Namely, it allows for more fine-grained difficulty control than just flat difficulty level settings. If you simply can't continue, you can level up until it becomes plausible. It helps prevent any portion of the game from being insurmountable, though you do have to grind.

      Delete
    5. There's no such merit. If you can't continue, you can fine tune your strategies, observe what's giving you trouble, improve your execution. Or pick an easier mode till you get the basics and are ready to take on higher difficulties. If the game is well designed (and Kyrieru seems to be very good at designing games), there's no need for lazy way outs like that.

    6. I am not sure how "there are other approaches" mean "there is no such merit". Nor how "there are other difficulty levels" negates "other methods can be more granular". Nor how "you can improve your strategies" means such a method does not prevent things from being insurmountable. Nor how a game being well-designed would obviate any of this. But perhaps that's just me.

  13. Great idea on the new direction!

This sounds way better than what it was going to be, but I'm very glad you're still keeping the metroidvania aspect.

  14. I like the new character, even if she looks plain, i still like the design, I dont think there is a need to over elaborate on her. I think that you should just go with the flow, the wind is ever changing.... and so are game ideas!

Your doing well so i think you should just keep doing your thing.

  15. I hope that the next one that you decide to do stage based is something like D&D: Shadow Over Mystara or Dragon's Crown (or Scott Pilgrim VS the World, considering the sprites).

  16. I don't mind the new direction on the game, I kinda like the new idea of her actually being a martial artist the only bad part about that is its hard to find middle ground because a karate gi doesn't really have sex appeal and almost anything else doesn't really deliver the message. I think the only female character that ever pulled off both without looking like a total slut is Yuri Sakazaki from art of fighting/king of fighters (with a karate gi anyway)

  17. This sounds like it will be a pretty cool game. I like the sprite as it is, and Iook forward to hitting monsters with that flying-kick in the pic whenever the demo comes out.

  18. Screw the Hadouken, put in the Ryuuko Ranbu. Yo, an H-Ranbu, 'twould be sick.

  19. Hmm, I'm not so sure about this, unless you've got good reach on you main attacks. In a lot of these sorts of games, I often feel like my attacks just don't reach far enough, and I have to get dangerously close to my foes to actually attack them. This encourages me to avoid any combat at all if I can, and was one of the biggest reasons that I feel the later parts of Eroico where much fairer then the early ones. This is also why I actually fought most of the foes towards the end, but avoided them completely at the start.

  20. does kyrie have a thing for girls with shorter hair? :D

  21. I'm kind of following this blog for a good amount of time now (since sometime in 2012) and while I think Kuro was a nice game, I never really played it besides the demo. Also Eroico never appealed to me, mainly because of the male lead.

When it comes to hentai / porn games I really like the idea of hand-to-hand-combat a lot and the premise seems to be just about right for this game to make me want to buy it. There is certainly a lack of good quality games of this genre. The bigger sprites and the general theme are also a big plus for me. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this project progress.

PS: I'm hoping the "pantsless" version will make an appearance in the game as an alternative/unlockable costume of some sort. :P

  22. I'll just buy anything you make, your games are great.
And I'm gland your next game(s) are going to have a girl as the protagonist. Though I like Kurovadis more than this girl here hu.

Also if one day you could make a game with a long-haired girl, it could be cool, but I can see why you prefer short haired ones. (Easier to make, maybe ?)
Or if that's just one of your fetish, well that's fine as well.
